Game Preview: Kentucky Wildcats vs. Georgia Bulldogs

by:Rashawn Franklin10/20/12
Thirteenth-ranked Georgia comes to Lexington with a bad taste in its mouth. The last time the Bulldogs took the field, they were dismantled by #6 South Carolina, 35-7. After last week's bye, Georgia has collected its thoughts, refocused its goals, and is looking to get back on track against the Wildcats. Lucky for them, after such a dismal offensive performance against the Gamecocks, they run into a Kentucky defense that hasn't been able to stop much of anything lately. Injuries are a big part of the Wildcats' defensive struggles. Kentucky is at a point where it could start freshmen at all four secondary positions in tonight's game. Still, on homecoming weekend, the Wildcats are expecting to put up a fight so they can stay bowl-eligible for this season. Why Georgia wins: Even with suffering its first loss two weeks ago, Georgia can still be the East representative in the SEC Championship if things fall in its favor. The Bulldogs need to revert back to their winning ways, though, and it all begins with taking down the Wildcats. Kentucky's coaches believe, despite so much youth in its secondary, Georgia's offensive game plan will be to run the football. If Georgia is able to do so, it will set up the passing game for one of the nation's best quarterbacks, Aaron Murray. If Murray can get into a groove offensively, it could be a long night for the Wildcats Why Kentucky wins: If a last-ditch effort to get to a bowl game is going to work, Kentucky has to pull out all the stops against Georgia. With Georgia linebacker, Jarvis Jones, out for today's game, there could be more opportunities in the running game for Kentucky. The Wildcats will have to put an emphasis, and ultimately, establish the running game to take pressure off of young quarterback, Jalen Whitlow. Whitlow, who threw his first collegiate touchdown in his last play from scrimmage, has to play his best game to date if he wants to get his first victory. It'll take a huge effort by the Wildcats, a lot of mistakes by the Bulldogs and a little Commonwealth Stadium luck as well. Prediction: I just can't see all of that going right for the Wildcats. Georgia is rested, talented, and angry. This could get ugly and I think it will. Georgia 38- Kentucky 7.   Feel free to predict the score in the comments section.
