Only four games into his college career, Barion Brown has two SEC weekly honors to his name. Kentucky’s talented wideout was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week for his performance in the 31-23 win over Northern Illinois. Brown previously won SEC Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in the season opener vs. Miami (OH).

On Saturday, Brown caught four passes for a career-high 102 yards and his first two UK receiving touchdowns. In the first quarter, he caught a screen pass and weaved his way through the defense to tie the game at 7-7. His 70-yard catch touchdown in the third quarter is his longest of the season and was also Kentucky’s longest offensive play of the season.

Brown is the second freshman in Kentucky history with 100 yards and two receiving touchdowns in the same game; Garrett Johnson was the first at Florida in 2014. Through four games, he has 13 catches for 201 yards, averaging 15.5 per catch.

Today, Brown was also named one of On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power’s True Freshmen Standouts of Week 4.

“The 6-foot-1, 166-pound speedster appears to be getting more and more comfortable within Kentucky’s offense,” Power wrote. “We wouldn’t be surprised to see him finish as one of the top true freshmen pass catchers by season’s end.”

SEC Players of the Week – Sept. 26

Brown shares the SEC Freshman of the Week award with Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins, who had a career-high 140 yards on a career-high 27 carries and two touchdowns in the Rebels’ 35-27 win over Tulsa. Judkins now leads the SEC with five rushing touchdowns this season.
