BBN Jam Finals: (2012) Davis & Kidd-Gilchrist vs. (1996) Anderson & Walker

KSR’s BBN Jam Tournament has reached a crescendo. Unlike March Madness, the powerhouses have easily prevailed.

Two National Championship teams meet in the title game. Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will go toe-to-toe with Derek Anderson and Antoine Walker. Here’s how they got to the final game:

The representatives from the 2012 team used their defensive dominance and outstanding athleticism to propel them to a championship. You may have never heard this before, but Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist took the fourth and fifth-most shots on that championship team. Unbelievable.

Rick Pitino’s 1996 squad was loaded from top to bottom. The Untouchables overwhelmed teams with their depth and their fullcourt press. The question is, could they have the same effect on an opponent if it were simply a two-on-two matchup?

TALE OF THE TAPE 

Even though basketball has transformed into a game defined by long-range shooting, only Anderson makes more than 30% of his three-pointers. If there’s only one player on the court that can catch on fire, I like his team’s chances.

MKG’s length on the defensive end provides problems for most, but Anderson is an exception at 6-foot-5. 2012 has that advantage on the interior. Is there a lengthier player in the history of basketball than Anthony Davis? I think not. It’s hard to see a world where Walker could neutralize one of the most dominant college basketball players to grace the hardwood in the last 25 years.
