RECAP

JAZZ EXTEND LEAGUE BEST RECORD AGAINST THE RAPTORS

In a thrilling 115-112 victory over Pascal Siakam and the Toronto Raptors, The Utah Jazz stand atop the NBA standings with a 30-11 record. Donovan Mitchell led the Jazz in scoring with 31 points, even after going 0-9 from beyond the arc. On the defensive end, Rudy Gobert notched another double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds to go along with his two blocks, with Mitchell adding three steals of his own. https://twitter.com/WorldWideWob/status/1373101659186946049?s=20 For the Raptors, Siakam was the leading scorer with 27 but was unable to pull out the W, especially after this buzzer-beater spinning out. This shot marks the fourth time just this season Siakam has had a game-winning/tying shot go in-and-out. Pascal and his near double-double were not enough, as the next closest scorers on the team was Norman Powell and Fred VanVleet with 17 points apiece.

NUGGETS HOLD OFF BULLS IN OVERTIME VICTORY

In a game where both Jamal Murray scored 34 points, and Nikola Jokic posted another triple-double, the Nuggets were pushed to the edge by a young Chicago Bulls team. Led by Zach LaVine and his 32 points, the Bulls mounted a near comeback-win against Murray’s nuggets thanks to LaVine and the 22 points from Otto Porter Jr. off the bench. Down by three with less than 15 seconds left in the game, Murray gets open and is able to make a circus shot to send the game into overtime and get the W. https://twitter.com/WorldWideWob/status/1373114564842246145?s=20 With only three games separating the 3rd to 7th seed in the playoffs, Murray’s 34 points and four steals and Jokic’s 34 points of his own along with 15 rebounds helped the Nuggets solidify their grasp over the fifth seed in the Western Conference.

SUNS GET EASY WIN AGAINST THE WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE

In an easy 113-101 victory, Devin Booker and Chris Paul glided past Karl-Anthony Towns and his Timberwolves, bouncing back from the comeback loss by the Wolves on Thursday. Without coach Monty Williams, who was ejected with two technical fouls, Chris Paul handled the Wolves, scoring 20 points and dishing out nine assists. Booker, in another off night, scored only 16 points while shooting 33 percent from the field. The only highlight of the night was CP3’s handles when he blew past Towns and rookie Anthony Edwards. https://twitter.com/Ballislife/status/1373120481918910465?s=20 For the Wolves, after combining for 83 points in the comeback win against Phoenix on Thursday night, Towns and Edwards were kept relatively in check, combining for a total of only 35 points, with Towns scoring 24. Ricky Rubio was second in scoring behind KAT with 21 points and ten assists. The Suns next face the Los Angeles Lakers, looking to topple them in the Western Conference standings.

KELDON JOHNSON GOES OFF TO EXTEND SPURS WINNING STREAK

In a 116-110 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Keldon Johnson took over the #1 role in DeMar DeRozan’s first game back after his father’s funeral. Scoring 23 points to go along with a career-high 22 rebounds, Johnson, who in his second year, grabbed 11 offensive rebounds alone. Tim Duncan was the last Spur to notch grab over 10 offensive rebounds in 2010. https://twitter.com/statmuse/status/1373089692422340608?s=20 For the Cavaliers, the backcourt of Darius Garland and Collin Sexton combined for 58 points, leading a fierce comeback in the fourth quarter that was not enough against the large lead built early on by Johnson and the Spurs. For the Cavaliers, shooting 26 percent as a team from beyond the arc played a huge part in their loss. Here are the full stats from last night: [table id=727 /]
