While Kentucky was busy bullying the Cardinals on the football field, some former ‘Cats starred in exciting games on the basketball court. 2015 stars Devin Booker and Karl-Anthony Towns each led their teams in big wins last night. Check it out.

Devin Booker drops 30 in 16th straight W

The Phoenix Suns are one game away from tying a franchise-record 17-game winning streak. The runner-ups have not rolled over and let defeat keep their chins down in 2021-22. In fact, this Suns unit is playing even better than last year’s group.

30 from Devin Booker and 22 from Chris Paul was enough to out-duel Kevin Durant and James Harden in yesterday’s win in Brooklyn to cap off a four-game road trip which the Suns of course swept.

Phoenix now sits at 17-3 and one of only five Western Conference teams over .500. It’s very early still, but the Suns look even more formidable than a season ago and in a West that looks even weaker. So yes, there’s a bright future yet in Phoenix.

Check out how Devin Booker got to work last night:

KAT drops 28 and fouls out in double-overtime win over Philly

The last time I personally discussed the Timberwolves on one of these posts, I railed on their lack of effort and focus, Karl-Anthony Towns‘ own lack of aggressiveness and worst of all, their lack of any team togetherness whatsoever. Since, they’ve won six of seven and just evened their record up at .500 at 10-10 with a win over Philadelphia in two overtimes.

It was Minnesota’s hydra of primary scorers that got the job done. KAT could barely miss, converting 11-16 shots for 28 points as Deangelo Russell led Minnesota with 35 points and six three-pointers while Anthony Edwards added 19 of his own to bookend an 82-point outburst from the Timberwolves top three.

Towns had a somewhat limited role due to foul trouble and eventually fouling out of the game, but he did plenty of damage before bowing out.

Jarred Vanderbilt didn’t bust up the scoreboard quite like his fellow starters, but the fourth-year forward did his best Oscar Tshiebwe impression, by grabbing 14 rebounds in his 37 minutes of play. He doesn’t get mentioned much, but J-Vando has really found a spot for himself in Minnesota doing what he’s best at: smashing the glass and paying defense.
