After winning nine straight games, the New York Knicks came back to Earth in the form of a three-game skid but returned to their winning ways on Sunday with a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers while you were watching the Oscars. Led by Julius Randle‘s 33 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, the Knicks edged the Lakers 112-108.

Immanuel Quickley, still starting in place of the injured Jalen Brunson, scored 15 points, as he keeps rolling, coming off his 38-point explosion a week ago.

For the Lakers, Anthony Davis struggled from the free-throw line, shooting just 1-5 in what could have been game-changing points. He still finished with 17 on the night to go along with 16 rebounds in the loss, but he likely wants those charity stripe attempts back.

Jarred Vanderbilt did not have his best game as a Laker, though he did manage a game-high three steals to go along with his two points, five rebounds, and two assists. The good thing about Vando is that he does not need plays called for him to score and contribute. On the flip side, having no designed plays for him will sometimes lead to statistically underwhelming games like this.

Wenyen Gabriel chipped in four points off the bench for the Lakers, rounding out a total of five former Kentucky players to see the court in this coastal battle between Los Angeles and New York.

Nick Richards notches double-double in 2nd start of the season

Third-year Nick Richards received his second straight start for the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday and took advantage of it. He scored 15 points on 5-6 shooting and had game-highs in both rebounds (12) and blocks (three). He also led the Hornets in the +/- category at +16.

Despite Richards’ effort, the Hornets fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 114-108. Charlotte has now lost five of their previous seven games.

PJ Washington, who will be a wildly interesting restricted free agent when the NBA season ends, scored 19 points for the Hornets and grabbed five boards.

Shaedon Sharpe, Kevin Knox play well in a blowout loss

There was plenty of opportunity for garbage buckets in the New Orleans Pelicans’ demolition of the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday, and Kevin Knox and Shaedon Sharpe may as well have been wearing Waste Management uniforms.

With the Blazers down 30 for a good portion of the game, Knox and Sharpe scored 14 points each and both shot 2-3 from behind the arc.

Watching Kentucky falter against Vanderbilt makes it really hard to see Shaedon Sharpe play well in the NBA this season. On the cusp of the NCAA tournament, it would be really nice to see Sharpe wearing Kentucky blue right about now.

Other BBNBA Notes:

  • Hopefully, no Kentucky fan attended the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder game with hopes of seeing former ‘Cats in action. Both Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (abdominal) and Keldon Johnson (foot) sat out due to injury. Similarly, two-way player, Olivier Sarr, did not dress for OKC.
  • Finally, Tyrese Maxey has played better games. He had just eight points on 3-9 shooting in the Philadelphia 76ers’ comfortable win over the Washington Wizards.
