BBNBA: Tyler Herro locks in down the stretch, leads Miami to clutch win

Boy Wonder did it again. Wednesday night marked another clutch, game-winning moment in Tyler Herro‘s young and illustrious career. With the game tied at 108 in Oklahoma City, the ball wasn’t leaving Herro’s hands in the last 25 seconds of the fourth quarter. He took the shot clock down to its last seconds as he drove to his right and crossed into two-point territory. As Herro stopped on a dime and began to rise, there was only one foreseeable outcome.

Splash or swish. Cha-ching or cash. Whatever you want to call it, Tyler Herro delivered again.

Herro put Miami up two in the closing seconds of the game and OKC had no answer as the Heat went on to win 110-108. The night was more than a last-second highlight reel for Herro though — he was doing everything from start to finish.

Herro’s 35-point outing against the Thunder ties his season-high, but the way in which he did it is even more impressive. 27 of Herro’s 35 points came from beyond the arc, as “Boy Wonder” cashed in nine 3-pointers, a career-high for him.

In a season where Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been outstanding, he was left in the shadows as Herro erupted. Despite the losing effort, SGA still posted 27 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.

Another performance worth noting was that of Miami’s big man.

Bam Adebayo dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds in Oklahoma City. That makes it four times in Bam’s last five games where he’s posted a double-double. What a night it was for the BBNBA in OKC.

Five Quarters in the Windy City

Julius Randle led the New York Knicks to a 128-120 overtime win over the Chicago Bulls. Randle’s magnificent play as of late included a performance where he led the Knicks in scoring on Wednesday night. 31 points and 13 rebounds were enough to disassemble the Bulls, but not before Randle attempted to end it at the buzzer.

Randle tried his best Tyler Herro impression in almost mirror scenarios, however, Randle’s efforts went slightly over the rim as time expired. Randle took Chicago’s Patrick Williams to the right where the former Kentucky Wildcat was forced into a left-handed corner fadeaway that would’ve given New York the win.

The Knicks decided to turn it on in overtime, as they outscored Chicago 11-3 in the extra frame. Randle’s play for the Knicks should not be going unnoticed. He’s dropped 30 points or more in four of his last eight outings. Randle is averaging 22.6 PPG and 8.9 RPG this season — that’s a man on a mission.

Some surprises, some normal nights

Perhaps one of the bigger surprises of the night was Kevin Knox II‘s performance against the Charlotte Hornets. Before the night, the Detroit Pistons and Hornets had a combined 14 wins and over 40 losses. Safe to say, Knox came to the rescue for a struggling Pistons team. Knox added 17 points in 19 minutes off the bench.

This was Knox’s second-highest-scoring outing this season, with the 23-year-old averaging just over five points all season. Knox’s big night led Detroit to a 141-134 win over Charlotte.

In Toronto, the ex-Kentucky backcourt of De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk led the way for the Sacramento Kings as they snuck by to a 124-123 dub over the Raptors. Fox dropped 27 points and Monk added 24 from the bench. Monk has made himself a legitimate Sixth Man of the Year candidate this season, seeing he’s averaging 14.9 PPG off the bench.

Another BBNBA member in the Western Conference also had himself a night. Keldon Johnson was productive once again after his game-saving block on Monday. Johnson led the San Antonio Spurs in scoring, as he normally does. However, Johnson’s 25 points weren’t enough as the Spurs lost 128-112 to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Other BBNBA notes

  • PJ Washington had 13 points and five rebounds while Nick Richards added three points and three rebounds in Charlotte’s 141-134 loss to Detroit.
  • Shaedon Sharpe dropped 12 points from the bench as Portland beat San Antonio 128-112.
  • Jamal Murray was quiet for the Nuggets with five points in Denver’s 141-128 win over the Washington Wizards.
