Wan’Dale Robinson made the most of his return to the field, scoring his first career touchdown and helping the New York Giants shock the Baltimore Ravens to improve to 5-1. Kentucky fans have been held in suspense about what Robinson might do in the NFL after the rookie left Week 1 with a knee injury, but the former ‘Cat returned to action in Week 6 to make the kind of big play he did often at Kroger Field.

In total, Robinson finished with three receptions on four targets for 37 yards, one shy of the team-high. This is more impressive considering he was on the field for just 15 of the Giants’ offensive snaps (23%), and received just 14.8% of the target share.

Robinson made a strong case to see more snaps moving forward, especially with New York’s wide receiver room banged up. The Giants have been one of the league’s most surprisingly successful teams of the season and that should only continue now that Wan’Dale is healthy once again.

In true New York media fashion, the New York Post wrote one article about Robinson giving his first touchdown football to his mom and another one about his girlfriend’s Instagram reaction to his touchdown. Wan’Dale seems to be transitioning from Kentucky to the Big Apple nicely.

Randall Cobb goes down with an ankle injury

Kentucky’s other speedy slot wide receiver, Randall Cobb, did not have as good of a Sunday. Cobb suffered an ankle injury that required him to leave the field via a cart. With a towel over his head, Cobb could not hold back his tears as he entered the locker room fearing for the worst.

After the game, though, Aaron Rodgers reported he was in better spirits, as X-rays came back negative, and initial reports are that he suffered a high ankle sprain. This will still cause him to miss multiple weeks and likely be placed on short-term injured reserve, but considering Cobb thought this was a season-ending broken ankle when it happened, a high-ankle sprain is a relief.

Cobb has been the healthiest he has been in a long time this season, so it is crushing to see him go down with an injury. Thankfully, it is not as bad as he first thought and we should see #18 on the field again before the year is out.

In other Kentucky player injury news, Mike Edwards missed Sunday’s game with an elbow injury he suffered last week. The team listed Edwards as questionable leading up to the game but put him on the inactive list beforehand.

Edwards had played all but two of a possible 345 defensive snaps through the Buccaneers’ first five games and had been a beacon for their defense. It would appear this elbow ailment won’t keep him off the field for long, so hopefully, we see him back in action soon.

Kentucky players’ stat roundup

Luke Fortner once again started at center for the Jacksonville Jaguars and played every offensive snap. Fortner has been the Kentucky rookie with the most success this season and it is great to see. Coming into Week 6, he had 203 pass-blocking snaps and allowed zero sacks allowed, the most by any rookie this year. He is also reportedly a stud in the film room, pointing out things to his older teammates and Trevor Lawrence they may have missed. Keep at it, Luke.

Landon Young also saw five offensive snaps on the line for New Orleans Saints, a number that keeps ticking upward each week.

Za’Darius Smith of the Minnesota Vikings was Kentucky’s biggest playmaker on defense on Sunday, essentially setting up a campfire in the Miami Dolphins backfield and roasting marshmallows all day. Big Z recorded four tackles (three solo), two tackles for loss, two sacks, and four QB hits. Those two sacks now give him 5.5 on the season, good for 8th overall and just one shy of the league leader.

Jamin Davis played on Thursday for the Washington Commanders and finished the night with four tackles (three solo), in yet another loss for D.C.’s football team.

Elsewhere on defense, Josh Allen had one tackle (one solo) and a QB hit for the Jags (Corey Peters also had a QB hit for them), Brandin Echols had one tackle (one solo) and a pass deflection for the Jets, and Quinton Bohanna had one tackle (one solo) for the Cowboys.

Kentucky football is on a bye this week, so all attention should be paid to the guys who used to wear the blue and white and now play on Sundays. Best of luck to these players and speedy recovery to those who need it.
