The Big Ten is inching closer to bringing football back in 2020.

The Big Ten’s Return to Competition Task Force met this afternoon with medical professionals. Pete Thamel reports the task force will present its medical, scheduling and television plans to all the conference’s presidents and chancellors on Sunday.

The same presidents and chancellors who voted in August to effectively cancel the 2020 Big Ten college football season will get another chance to bring back football in 2020. That vote is expected to take place over the next 72 hours. What has changed between now and then? The availability of rapid testing is what could ultimately convince the Big Ten decision-makers that it’s now safe to play football.

If schools get the green light, the earliest expected date of return is Oct. 17, three weeks after SEC play begins.
