Billy Donovan's Tuesday Morning Comments.....

by:Matt Jones04/03/07
On the Courier Journal website this morning, Billy Donovan was quoted as saying this..... When asked about an ESPN report that cites sources as saying that UK has put together a 7-year, $28 million package, Donovan said, "If that's happened, I'm not aware of it." The coach also said he hasn't spoken to his agent Lonnie Cooper in over a week. "I have not talked to him. I have not talked to anybody,'' he said. "There is a feeling in my heart that is very strong about Kentucky basketball. My first opportunity to work was for coach Pitino there. But that was a long time ago. I've been removed from there for 13 years, not two years." When asked if UK is a in which he'd be interested, Donovan said, "I don't know. I really don't know. We just got through playing since August and a trip to Canada, I can honestly tell you I haven't given any thought other than coaching our basketball team right now." Florida will hold its official campus celebration of the second straight NCAA championship on Friday, then he plans to travel to the Dominican Republic to celebrate his father-in-law's birthday this weekend. "I have not spoken to anybody," Donovan said. "I have not done anything. Nothing has changed for me from when I addressed it in St. Louis and I addressed it in Atlanta. I really don't know what to say at this point. I respect . . . the level of interest that's been created over this, but it's not by me. It has not been by me. "I've gotten a variety of different questions asked a lot of different ways about the situation. All I can say is I have not talked to anybody, I haven't spoken to anybody, my main focus is on these kids and our team and trying to win basketball games. "And for right now, I'm just going to enjoy what happened last night, because really what happened, I think, is significant in the game and college basketball and the last thing I want to be able to do and have happen is me be a distraction to any of that," he added. When asked if he sees himself on the Florida sidelines next season, Donovan responded: "I love the University of Florida, you know. I hope (athletic director) Jeremy Foley will have me back. It's not a situation -- people keep asking me that question -- I haven't talked to anybody, I haven't spoken to anybody, my focus right now at this point in time is what I see at the University of Florida." And here is Joakim Noah spouting nonsense.....
