The Kentucky Derby is right around the corner, and this morning, I've got a Derby story with a Kentucky basketball connection.
American Pharoah won the Arkansas Derby on Saturday in impressive fashion and is on his way to Louisville to prepare for the big race on May 2. Pharoah is one of three horses trainer Bob Baffert has in next month's Derby, and in an interview on "The Roger Stein Show" yesterday, Baffert says he's doing everything he can to keep his horses and staff on their toes--hooves?--
including showing them game tape from the UK/Wisconsin game.
"I heard that UK (basketball coaches) showed films of Secretariat to their team. I'm going to show my crew the UK-Wisconsin (basketball) game to keep them on their toes."
Louisville may be the only spot in the state Baffert can find the tape of that game; it's been burned or deleted everywhere else.
