Bobby Perry's Tuesday News and Views

by:Matt Jones08/11/08
bobbyperry.jpg Lets say that you are walking around your local Wal Mart in Clarksville, Indiana, shopping for eight dollar belts. Who would you never expect to see.....well Bobby Perry thats who. Bobby, who is known to not only be fashionable, but also frugal, was in town as a celebrity in the Fuzzy Zoeller golf tournament this weekend and found time to meet with a local fan who sent me this picture. Bobby is about to embark on a new sports journey here in Lexington, joining us as a contributor during basketball season and joining me on a new media venture that we will announce in the coming month. But until then, if you are looking for Bobby and want to know where you can find the Perry that always has his name on the back of his jersey, check the clothing aisle at your local Wal-Mart.....he may be lurking. Here are the notes....and for the first time maybe ever, all of them involve football recruiting....where do we live again? (1): Today is decision day for Henry Clay OL Sam Simpson as he has a press conference scheduled for 2 pm. Most believe that his decision is down to three schools, with UK, UVA and Vandy at the top of the list. We have heard reports that Virginia was the likely destination and of course my source at Henry Clay suggested UK was the target school. At this point no one knows for sure, but what is clear is that Simpson is one of the two or three best players in the state and Kentucky could certainly use him going forward. We will let you know what he decides just as soon as he decides it. (2): Tonight we also learned that QB prospect Morgan Newton will make his decision this week. Early indications by some sites suggest that Kentucky could be the favorite, but at this point that is simply speculation. Newton would be another HUGE pickup for the Cats and could provide some QB depth that has simply been unheard of in Lexington in recent years. With Kentucky getting Newton and Mossakowski, it would in one year, get potentially the two highest ranked out-of-state QB prospects in 40 years.....remarkable. (3): We had Ryan Mossakowski on our show tonight and he had a couple of interesting things to say. He didnt rule out playing baseball if drafted, although he did say that he was wanting an education and that he expected to be in Lexington in the fall. The kid is amazingly well spoken and sounds like a young Brian Brohm, with the crisp nature of his answers and his ability to engage on the radio. We will have the audio of the interview up here around 11 am so make sure and come by and listen. (4): Finally, Rich Brooks noted tonight that he plans on playing 7-10 true Freshmen this year in substantial roles....a very sizable amount. While some are obvious (Cobb, Trevathan, Boyd if healthy), others are just starting to showcase themselves recently, including Matt Roark, who is getting rave reviews at the wideout position in recent days. What is clear is that for the first time in many years, you will have to know the recruits to know the team.....and we will introduce them over the next couple of weeks. Tuesday should be a huge day on the blog....Simpson decides....Mossakowski audio....the return of the original Intern as he begins his football posting and more.....so stay tuned.....
