Four-star athlete Michael Drennen revealed on National Signing Day that he has picked UK over USC. A consensus top 250 player recruit, Rivals ranks Drennen as the No. 10 all-purpose back in America. He earns the title "all-purpose back" for his ability to make plays out of the backfield as a running back and from the slot as a pass-catcher. At Kentucky he'll primarily be used in the slot and can immediately compete for playing time. Recruited by Vince Marrow, the Big Dog began this process when Drennen was an eighth grader. In July of 2016 Kentucky was the first school to offer the Dublin, Ohio native a scholarship. Drennen and Marrow have changed quite a bit since that first camp, to his official visit for the Florida game in September. Ohio State, LSU, Florida, Arizona State and USC all entered the picture at some point. The Trojans were the greatest threat, landing an official visit in December. Despite USC's late push, Marrow's presence kept Drennen locked into Kentucky. Unlike other previous high-profile Kentucky commitments, Drennen's was not accompanied with the dramatic ups-and-downs. In four years he only gave out a handful of interviews, preferring to let his play do the talking. Even so, the significance of his addition to this class cannot be overstated. Kentucky has successfully recruited on both sides of the trenches. They've picked up talented linebackers and defensive backs, have transformed junior college quarterbacks into proficient passers and molded raw running backs into stars. The last box has only been checked once -- dynamic explosive offensive weapon. In 2017 Lynn Bowden gave UK's offense that much-needed juice. In 2019 Wan'Dale Robinson ripped out the hearts of fans all across the BBN. To take the program another step forward, Kentucky could not afford another whiff at this spot in 2020. With Drennen in Kentucky blue, the Cats have a man named 'Donut' prepared to seamlessly step in and make an impact in what is setting up to be an historic campaign on the gridiron. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vuabf9WSnc
