Title Town lived up to its name as the Boyle County faithful watched Montavin Quisenberry run all over the Danville Admirals for a 41-7 victory.

The Battle for Boyle wasn’t much of a battle as the Boyle County Rebels (#3 in KSR’s Week 2 Kentucky High School Football Rankings) defeated the Danville Admirals Friday night 41-7. The atmosphere at Rebel Stadium was electric from the warmups through kickoff.

“That’s the whole thing, in football, in high school football it’s all about a team. It’s not about one person; it’s about who has the better team,” said Boyle County head coach Justin Haddix. “There are teams we’ll play that’ll be more talented, but it’s the best team that wins –- and I feel like we preach that all the time, and our players love each other, and that makes it a lot easier.”

Touchdowns, Tricks, and a lot of Treats

On the first play of the game, sophomore Montavin Quisenberry received a hand-off. Instead of running, he hit Cole Sims for a 75-yard touchdown. A blink and you’ll miss the start that lit Rebel Stadium ablaze.

“We kinda set that up, that kid played quarterback before –- we got two or three guys on offense that can throw. They made a great play and (Quisenberry) made a big play for us,” Haddix said after the game.

No, that’s not Hard Knocks in Danville. That’s KSR’s newest addition, Steven Peake. See the explosive opening highlight and so much more by subscribing to KSR Digital on YouTube.

The offense didn’t stop there. Quarterback Sage Dawson scrambled for another touchdown to make the score 13-0 Rebels. Both team’s defenses decided enough was enough, and three turnovers followed (two by Danville, one from Boyle).

Boyle finally took advantage of the turnover fest as Quisenberry ran for a touchdown to make it 19-0. What followed was one of the best throws all day when Sage Dawson delivered a dime to Cole Sims. Dawson threw for another touchdown to Quisenberry (who else?), and the Rebels took a 41-0 lead into the half.

The lone bright spot for the Admirals came from Demauriah Brown as he rushed for a long touchdown. The Admirals fought the entire game, and the intensity never wavered; as a former sub-5-foot basketball player, I know the feeling.

Kentucky Commit Tommy Ziesmer Dominates

Defensive-End Tommy Ziesmer of Boyle County looked like a man among boys throughout the game. Coming in at 6’2 220 pounds, it’s no wonder that West Virginia, Tennessee, and Louisville were vying for his services. In the end, Mark Stoops and company kept him close to home.

“On my official visit, the coaches were like family to me.” He’s been compared to former Kentucky star and current Detroit Lion Josh Paschal. Like Paschal, Ziesmer is quick off the ball and isn’t afraid of contact.

What sticks out about Ziesmer is his attitude. He’s constantly encouraging teammates, even through the chippy nature of the rivalry. When asked about the game, he said, “They were talking trash all week, so you know it’s time to show out now; the score shows itself.”

A player with a ton of personality is heading to Kroger Field, and Stoops should be excited about his future.

Boyle County’s Quisenberry “Dreams” of UK Interest

Through reading this article, one name jumps off the page: Montavin Quisenberry. His four touchdowns were incredible, and he’s (checks notes) only a sophomore. His primary recruitment is still a year away. However, EKU has decided not to wait and has shown interest, and I believe Kentucky should be next. When asked about the possibility, he said, “That would be a dream to get an offer from anywhere, but Kentucky for sure.”

If his Friday night performance is any indication, another star could be coming out of Boyle County.
