Brad White will be Jon Sumrall's defensive coordinator at Florida
New Florida head coach Jon Sumrall joined the Kentucky coaching staff following the 2018 season. For three seasons, the former UK linebacker roamed the sidelines in Lexington. Sumrall spent two years as the linebackers coach before being promoted to co-defensive coordinator in 2021. During that time, he worked with one defensive coordinator.
Sumrall is now getting the band back together. On Tuesday, news broke that Kentucky defensive coordinator Brad White is expected to become the next defensive coordinator at Florida. Matt Zenitz was the first to report.
White’s run at Kentucky officially ends after spending eight seasons with the program. After coaching outside linebackers in 2018 and helping Josh Hines-Allen win the Bronko Nagursi Trophy, White was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2019 after Matt House left for the NFL. Over seven seasons as a defensive play-caller, White led UK to seven consecutive top-40 finishes in ESPN’s SP+ rankings with a top-five finish in 2022. The Wildcats produced 10 NFL Draft picks during his time as defensive coordinator.

Change is now coming to the Kentucky football program. Mark Stoops is officially out and Will Stein is in and expected to bring in an entirely new staff. That means a new defensive coordinator for the first time since 2019. However, Kentucky is not done seeing Brad White yet. In the SEC’s new nine-game scheduling model that begins in 2026, Florida is one of three permanent opponents. That means that the Wildcats will play the Gators every season. Both Jon Sumrall and Brad White will be returning to Kroger Field next season to coach against the Wildcats.
