Breaking Down The Cats Commitments **Updated**

by:Shawn Bridwell12/18/07
As of 12/18/07 Taylor Wyndham 6'4 205-Outside Linebacker Swansea (SC) Swansea Bio: Depending how much weight Taylor can retain with his body frame, he could eventually grow into a defensive end for the Cats. Regardless, this looks like another commitment for Kentucky that has somehow stayed low key in the recruiting rankings. With this staff’s ability to evaluate prospects, this could be another big time player in the future. Offer sheet: Kentucky, Buffalo, Marshall Interest Sheet: South Carolina, Clemson Dave Ulinski 6'6 280-Offensive Tackle Louisville (KY) Dupont Manual Bio: Ulinski is a two way star for Manual high school located in the heart of Louisville. At 6'6 280, it makes him a prime target for a massive offensive tackle in the future. Good feet and a nice motor, added weight with improvement of technique and Ulinski can be a major bright spot on the offensive line. Needs to work on strength and pass blocking, especially his first punch with rushing defensive ends off the edge. Offer Sheet: Kentucky, Louisville Interest Sheet: Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Auburn, Western KY E.J. Fields 6'2 180-Athlete Frankfort (KY) Frankfort Bio: One of the most electrifying athletes in the state of Kentucky in the 2008 class, Fields is a game breaker with outstanding speed and incredible vision in the open field. This is my favorite commitment so far, as E.J. has the ability to step in as a freshman and contribute right away. With the departure of Keenan Burton and Stevie Johnson to graduation, Fields is a prime target to insert in the lineup and cut loose to cause fireworks with his excellent playmaking ability. Offer Sheet: Kentucky, Louisville, NC State, Purdue, Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Duke Intrest Sheet: Same as above Randall Cobb 5'11 180-Athlete Alcoa (TN) Alcoa Bio: Another dynamic athlete, Cobb handles the quarterback duties for his Alcoa High School squad in Tennessee. This is a huge pickup as UK was in early on Randall before many of the other schools were, including the University of Tennessee, Which recently sent out an official offer. Most likely another receiver candidate that has quick and precise cutting ability which will ultimately lead to excellent route running. It is always good when you have a former quarterback playing receiver, as they can feel what the QB is thinking and react on the go to their decision making. Offer Sheet: Kentucky, Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State Interest Sheet: Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, West Virginia Deaunte Mason 6'4 215-Quaterback Nashville (TN) Pearl-Cohn Bio: A Big frame and a strong arm are the main attractions to this Nashville TN prospect, as he could be a major sleeper if player development continues to grow at the next level. A Threat to run and pass, Mason is truly excited to join the Wildcat family, and is ready to red shirt and take in all the experience and knowledge he can to be a top flight quarterback. Offer Sheet: Kentucky Interest Sheet: Louisville, North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Western KY Donte Rumph 6'3 260-Defensive End St. Matthews (SC) Calhoun County Bio: Considering Donte Rumph's uncle is on the Clemson football staff, who heavily recruited him, this makes it even more of a impressive pickup for the Wildcat football program. With an offer sheet that boast some big time football names, Rumph could be another player that could help right away with the thin roster depth at defensive end. A quick motor and the ability to keep his pad level low to get depth in the backfield quickly, Donte could have a big future in blue and white. Offer Sheet: Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Clemson Interest Sheet: North Carolina, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Vanderbilt Winston Guy 6'0 186-Safety Lexington (KY) Lexington Catholic Bio: The most recent pickup for Rich Brooks and staff might be the most impressive one to date as Guy is the number one rated prospect in the state of Kentucky for the 2008 class. A one time Arkansas commitment, Guy was impressed with the on the field play of the Wildcats and wanted to be apart of the growing machine that is Kentucky Football. A speedster with the knack of knocking your head off, Winston Guy possesses all the traits that any coach would want in his defensive backfield. Offer Sheet:Kentucky, Minnesota, Akron, Arkansas, Middle Tennessee State, Cincinnati Interest Sheet: Miami-FL, Oregon, Auburn Cartier Rice 5'10 185-Cornerback Duncan (SC) Byrnes Bio: As Rob Gidel stated shortly after the commitment of Rice, the Cats have recently struck out on several recruits from the Byrnes High School powerhouse football program. That is until Cartier Rice decided to give his verbal pledge to the Cats in what will hopefully open up a new pipeline in recruiting. Somewhat of a sleeper prospect with good hips and a knack for getting his hands on the ball. Needs to improve his speed a little and add some muscle to his frame. Most likely a red shirt in 2008. Offer Sheet: Kentucky, Michigan State, NC State, Rutgers, Wisconsin Interest Sheet: Louisville, South Carolina Osaze Idumwonyi 6'1 275-Center Cedar Hill (TX) Cedar Hill Bio: A non stop force on the offensive line who plays snap to whistle and goes out all in doing so. Perfect prospect to fill somewhat of a question mark at the center spot down the road for the Cats. Mean, strong, and intelligent in instructing and leading the offensive line for his Cedar Hill high school squad. Could also possibly be a guard with his quick feet and his ability to get down hill quick in trap plays. Offer Sheet:Kentucky, Missouri, UNLV, Tulsa Interest Sheet: Washington State, SMU, Kansas Sean Stackhouse 6'4 245-Tight End Jackonsville (FL) Mandarin Bio: A big bruising tight end that can block like a lineman and pass catch like a receiver, this is the type of tight end that Brooks and staff have been jockeying to land for more than a few years now. Jimmy Heggins did a masterful job of stealing Stackhouse away from none other than the Miami-Fl, as at 6'4 245 Stackhouse is the idea size for a hybrid tight end. Decent speed and very good hands, could see early playing time, although I predict a red shirt. Offer Sheet:Kentucky, Miami-FL, NC State, East Carolina Interest Sheet: Minnesota, Central Florida, Cincinnati Trevino Woods 6'5 285-Offensive Guard Athens (GA) Clarke Central Bio: Considered a soft verbal to Kentucky, Woods was the first commitment to the Cats of the 2008 class and has good size although he lacks in strength with only a 285 pound bench press. No doubt a red shirt prospect, however Woods has good feet and a hard work ethic. Offer Sheet:Kentucky Interest Sheet: Clemson, Georgia Tech Candler Burden 6'4 280-Offensive Tackle Oxford (OH) LaSalle Bio: Standing at 6'4 280 with a 400 pound bench press, Burden could be one of the sleepers of the class when all is said and done. UK will look to start Burden off at the tackle position, but I myself see him fitting best in at guard with the strength he possesses at such a young age. If the Cats can beef him up to 300+ he has the ability to be a power blocking guard on the inside. A name to watch four years from now, as you could possibly say several schools missed on their evaluation of this under the radar prospect. Offer Sheet:Kentucky Interest Sheet: Michigan, Michigan State, West Virginia, Akron, Cincinnati, Miami-OH Gene McCaskill 6'0 175-Reciever Chester (SC) Chester Bio: McCaskill camped at Kentucky over the summer, and the coaches liked enough of what they saw to offer Gene a Scholarship, which he happily accepted. Not the fastest prospect out there, but outstanding route running and efficient hands make this commitment another possible great pickup. Excellent football knowledge and desire to compete and win on every play. Offer Sheet: Kentucky Interest Sheet: Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Duke Matthew Smith 6'4 275-Defensive Tackle Louisville (KY) St. Xavier Bio: Being part of a winning program can push good players to become great. There is no doubt that Matthew Smith belongs to one of those schools as he stars for nationally known St. Xavier high school in Louisville, KY. Smith will red shirt his first season in Lexington, and probably will remain on the defensive line unless the coaches think he might best fit on the offensive side of the ball. A 300+ bench presser and 550+ squatter, Smith has a great weight room desire that could help him become a major part of the D-line in the future for the Cats. Offer Sheet: Kentucky, Ohio Interest Sheet: Louisville, Michigan, NC State, Auburn, Boston College
