BTI's Rants and Ramblings: Cats Bounce Back Strong Under Calipari

by:Bryan1301/25/11
Among the many accolades of the first 2 years of the Calipari era, such as the draft picks and home court winning streak, another one that I have noticed is the ability of Cal's team to bounce back well after losses.  Excluding the West Virginia loss, because it ended a season, UK has won all 6 times following a loss during Calipari's time in Lexington.  And it every case, the Cats have been able to hammer opponents, by an average of 18 ppg.  The South Carolina win on Saturday was the first time UK had not rebounded from a loss with a double digit win.  January 26th, 2010: South Carolina 68, Kentucky 62 January 30th, 2010: Kentucky 86, Vanderbilt 72 -Halftime: UK 49, Vandy 34 -24-54 FG (44.4%) -12-23 3FG (52.2%) ______________________________________________ February 27th, 2010: Tennessee 74, Kentucky 65 March 3rd, 2010: Kentucky 80, Georgia 68 -Halftime: UK 40, UGA 36 -31-57 FG (54.4%) -8-24 3FG (33.3%) ______________________________________________ November 24th, 2010: UCONN 84, Kentucky 67 November 30th, 2010: Kentucky 91, Boston U. 57 -Halftime: UK 40, BU 33 -32-54 FG (59.3%) -10-16 3FG (62.5%) ______________________________________________ December 4th, 2010: North Carolina 75, Kentucky 73 December 8th, 2010: Kentucky 72, Notre Dame 58 -Halftime: UK 40, ND 40 -23-57 FG (40.4%) -9-24 3FG (37.5%) ______________________________________________ January 8th, 2011: Georgia 77, Kentucky 70 January 11th, 2011: Kentucky 78, Auburn 54 Halftime: UK 41, Auburn 21 -29-58 FG (50.0%) -11-26 3FG (42.3%) ______________________________________________ January 18th, 2011: Alabama 68, Kentucky 66 January 22nd, 2011: Kentucky 67, South Carolina 58 Halftime: UK 36, USC 26 -20-47 FG (42.6%) -3-13 3FG (23.1%) So, just another example of people who want to question Cal's "coaching" ability.  In my opinion, it takes a special coach to get his team back on track, emotionally and on the court.  For some teams, once the ball gets rolling on losing, coaches have been unable to stop the losing.  In Cal's case, he has been able to kick the losing "streak" at one each time.
