BTI's Rants and Ramblings: Monday Morning Offensive Breakdown (Florida)

[caption id="attachment_194265" align="alignnone" width="492"]Dale Zanine | USA Today Dale Zanine | USA Today[/caption] Every Monday, I breakdown the UK offense in each possible down and distance scenario.  It will hopefully give you a good sense of where the Cats were strong and not so much.  Unfortunately against Florida we all know there were not strong points.  But, if you are looking for the tiniest of positives from the offense, look at the last group of plays.  Maybe they will cheer you up (UH NO). 1st Down Pass: 0-2, 1 INT, 1 sack for -6 yards Run: 16 rushes for 75 yards (4.7 ypc) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 9-13, 171 yards, 1 TD,1 INT, 2 sacks for -10 yards (1 fumble lost) Run: 29 rushes for 167 yards (5.8 ypc), 1 TD RECAP: The Cats basically gave up on the pass on 1st down really quick.  In fact, they did not attempt a pass on 1st down the entire 2nd half.  The rushing attack had a couple nice runs but also had 6 plays of negative yardage.  Not gonna find many positives in any aspect of the game. 2nd Down and Long (6 yards or more) Pass: 1-4, 3 yards, 1 INT, 2 sacks for -5 yards Run: 6 rushes for 14 yards (2.3 ypc) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 3-9, 128 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, 4 sacks for -21 yards (1 fumble lost) Run: 11 rushes for 26 yards (2.4 ypc) RECAP: 12 plays run, 12 yards gained.  Enough said. 2nd Down and Short (5 yards or less) Pass: 1 sack for -5 yards (1 fumble lost) Run: 2 rushes for 7 yards (3.5 ypc) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 0-1,1 sack for -5 yards (1 fumble lost) Run: 4 rushes for 18 yards (4.5 ypc) RECAP: 3 plays run.  2 yards gained. 3rd Down and Long (6 yards or more) Pass: 2-7, 52 yards, 1 INT 1 sack for -10 yards (converted 1 of 8) Run: 1 rush for 2 yards (2.0 ypc) (converted 0 of 1) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 6-12, 79 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 2 sacks for -21 yards (converted 3 of 14) Run: 1 rush for 2 yards (2.0 ypc) (converted 0 of 1) RECAP: Johnson's strike to Badet late in the 4th quarter the only positive play here.  Cats completely inept in any aspect of the passing game. 3rd Down and Short (5 yards or less) Pass: No Plays Run: 3 rushes for 12 yards (4.0 ypc) (converted 3 of 3) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 0-2 (converted 0 of 2) Run: 4 rushes for 26 yards (6.5 ypc) (converted 4 of 4) RECAP: HEY A BRIGHT SPOT.  Kentucky converted all 3 of its 3rd and short opportunities and all through the ground game.  So basically, we are on the verge of being the best 3rd and short team in the country.
