BTI's Rants and Ramblings: Tuesday Morning Offensive Playcalling Breakdown (Vanderbilt)

[caption id="attachment_208580" align="alignnone" width="521"]UK Athletics UK Athletics[/caption] 1st Down Pass: 4-8, 13 yards Run: 23 rushes for 99 yards (4.3 ypc), 1 TD Combined Season Statistics Pass: 27-43, 336 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 3 sacks for -23 yards (1 fumble lost) Run: 125 rushes for 678 yards (5.4 ypc), 2 TD RECAP: The passing game was abysmal, which was obvious.  The rushing attack was also slow in the 1st half but the Cats began seeing a lot more success with Snell and Kemp in the 2nd half, including a few 10+ yard runs.  The rushing attack on 1st down this season has been pretty good and has been a good indicator of overall offensive success. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––— 2nd Down and Long (6 yards or more) Pass: 4-7, 13 yards Run: 13 rushes for 95 yards (7.3 ypc) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 19-33, 253 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT, 6 sacks for -37 yards (1 fumble lost) Run: 54 rushes for 309 yards (5.7 ypc) RECAP: The rushing attack was just dominant.  Amazed UK even tried 7 passes when they were gashing Vandy so easily with the running game.  Nonetheless, no threat to complete any pass for serious yardage but time and time again the rushing game either gained 1st downs or put UK in manageable 3rd down spots. 2nd Down and Short (5 yards or less) Pass: No Plays Run: 6 rushes for 20 yards (3.3 ypc), 1 TD Combined Season Statistics Pass: 4-5, 107 yards, 1 TD, 1 sack for -5 yards (1 fumble lost) Run: 21 rushes for 102 yards (4.9 ypc), 1 TD RECAP: Nothing much good here.  The first touchdown of the night here but overall not much success.  UK didn't even fain to try and attempt a pass. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– 3rd Down and Long (6 yards or more) Pass: 2-7, 23 yards (converted 1 of 7) Run: 3 rushes for 23 yards (7.7 ypc) (converted 1 of 3) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 16-34, 203 yards, 2 TD, 3 INT, 6 sacks for -51 yards (converted 9 of 40) Run: 8 rushes for 41 yards (5.1 ypc) (converted 2 of 8) RECAP: UK has been terrible all season in these situations and against Vandy it was no different. 3rd Down and Short (5 yards or less) Pass: 0-2, 1 INT (converted 0 of 2) Run: 3 rushes for 9 yards (3.0 ypc) (converted 2 of 3) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 2-8, 28 yards, 1 INT, 1 sack for -3 yards (converted 2 of 9) Run: 15 rushes for 75 yards (5.0 ypc) (converted 11 of 15) RECAP: Only 5 chances here but UK only converts 2 of them.  They continue to have good success in the running game and no ability to complete a pass.
