BTI's Rants and Ramblings: We Witnessed UK History

by:Bryan1301/13/15
Lost in all the anguish of UK fans over the performance of the last 2 games was the fact that we witnessed some history.  And for the UK basketball program, that is really saying something.  Do you realize that in UK history: KENTUCKY HAD NEVER WON CONSECUTIVE GAMES IN OVERTIME IN PROGRAM HISTORY Never.  Maybe that seems more incredible to me than it should, but I would think that over the 100+ year history of this program, 2,000+ wins and all the amazing games that UK would play and win consecutive OT games at some point.  But no, this is the team to accomplish that feat.  And while it took subpar performances in both games, you have to give this team credit.  When the crunch time happened, this team made it work for them. Now, Kentucky has played multiple OT games several times during that span.  Hell, in 1978-79, they actually played consecutive OT games 2 different times that season.  But they lost 3 of those 4 games.  Last year's team played multiple OT games, but beat LSU and then lost to Arkansas.  The 2012 title team never played an overtime game.  So while it does take some flukes in a way to even get to overtime, it still is an accomplishment. So does this mean anything to you?  I think it shows a toughness in this team.  And while I certainly don't hope they continue playing this way, it's good to know this team has the poise to get the job done.
