Cade Cunningham says brother’s hiring at Oklahoma State won’t affect recruitment

Last week, the recruitment of 2020 five-star guard Cade Cunningham was considered over before it really began when Oklahoma State hired his brother, Cannen, to their coaching staff.
Today, however, the 6-foot-7 prospect told Evan Daniels of 247Sports that while he's happy for his brother and believes it's a great opportunity for him, he's still "very open to everybody."
"I don’t think it does [matter to me], very much," Cunningham said. "I’m still very open to everybody. A lot of people feel like I’m going to announce my commitment soon or something, and that’s not the case. Obviously, I wanted my brother to take the job, it’s an incredible opportunity for him."
In his eyes, while Oklahoma State remains a solid option for him when the time comes for a decision, Cunningham says it'd be a mistake for other schools to stop recruiting him based off this news alone.
"I still like Oklahoma State, obviously that’s a big factor in my recruitment, but if a school wants to stop recruiting me because of it, that’s their problem," he said. "I’m still open, and I’m not choosing anybody right now."
In terms of other schools of interest for the No. 3 prospect in the class of 2020, Cunningham says Kentucky - among other schools - is still contacting him on a consistent basis.
"Pretty much all of them in the top ten, North Carolina has been really, really consistent, they’ve been really big on me," he told Daniels. "Duke, Kentucky, Texas, Florida, those schools have been really big on me, for sure, and the head coaches have been contacting me a lot."
Cunningham added that he's in no rush to make a decision, but said he certainly won't wait until the late signing period.
This means we're five months away - at most - from an announcement for the elite prospect.
"No, not in a hurry," he said. "I don’t want to wait until the last signing period. I feel like that doesn’t really make any sense. I’d want to commit as early as possible and then recruit other guys to come to the school that I’m at. When I know I’ll go, I don’t want to waste anybody’s time. A lot of people already know where they’re going."
Back in May, the five-star guard trimmed his list down to ten, with Duke, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Texas, Virginia, and Washington making the cut.
While he has said on multiple occasions that all of the schools on his list are on equal grounds, most assumed before news of his brother's hiring that Cunningham's decision would come down to the Wildcats and the Cowboys.
Now, it'd be silly to think that the latter school isn't the favorite at this point.
The five-star guard says Kentucky is still coming at him hard, but it's pretty evident that John Calipari certainly has his work cut out for him in the coming months.
