[caption id="attachment_298848" align="aligncenter" width="530"] (California State University system)[/caption] Some potentially bad news regarding the status of college football for this fall has surfaced. According to California State University (CSU) Chancellor Timothy White, all 23 of the universities within the CSU system plan to cancel in-person classes for the upcoming fall semester with the majority of courses moving online. CSU is the nation's largest four-year public university system. “Our university, when open without restrictions and fully in person, as is the traditional norm of the past, is a place where over 500,000 people come together in close and vibrant proximity with each other on a daily basis,” White told the CSU board of trustees on Tuesday. “That approach, sadly, just isn’t in the cards now.” What this potentially means is college football for these universities is still up-in-the-air. Three schools out of the Mountain West Conference - Fresno State, San Diego State, and San Jose State - are set to play Divison I schedules next season, and having no students on campus could complicate that. Other CSU schools such as Sacramento State and Cal Poly will also play against Divison I programs in the upcoming season. NCAA president Mark Emmert recently said that if there are no students on campuses this fall, there will no be college sports. The CSU system has now set the precedent. Will other California universities follow?
