Cameron Reddish started at point guard last night for Team USA

The most interesting tidbit from Team USA’s exhibition last night had nothing to do with the top two scorers, UK freshmen PJ Washington and Hamidou Diallo; it had to do with one of UK’s top targets, Cameron Reddish. Reddish, a 2018 6-8 small forward, started the game…at point guard. Most of us expected Immanuel Quickley to handle the point, but Cal went with Reddish, and stuck with him when Quickley got into foul trouble.

“I thought the starters all played pretty well,” Cal said. “Immanuel (Quickley) struggled a little bit, but he got two early fouls. That’s why you don’t foul.”

Reddish finished with eight points. Dick “Hoops” Weiss is in Egypt to cover the event and was floored by his versatility.

“Reddish is the most talented of the four high school seniors on the roster and arguably the most versatile player on the team with the ability to play all five positions,” Weiss wrote.

Duke is considered the early leader for Reddish, but playing under Calipari this summer is already boosting Kentucky’s chances, per Kyle Tucker.

“I would say he’s a cool dude,” Reddish said of Calipari, “but he really pushes you to the limit. Like, he really wants you to be great; he cares for you. I really like that about him. And I trust him. Everything he’s saying makes sense, and his current players right now are kind of backing it up for him.”

You can watch Reddish in the FIBA World Cup starting on Saturday, but in the meantime, enjoy these highlights:
