After a career performance vs. Florida A&M, Cason Wallace has pulled in his first weekly SEC honor. Wallace was named SEC Freshman of the Week today after posting 27 points, nine assists, four steals, and two rebounds in Kentucky’s 88-68 victory over the Rattlers last Wednesday. The points and assists were both career highs.

In 11 games this season, Wallace is averaging 11.8 points, 4.4 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game. He’s scored in double figures in six games and led the Cats in steals in a team-high seven games. He ranks among the league leaders in assists-per-game (3rd), steals per game (4th) assist-to-turnover ratio (5th), and minutes per game (8th).

This is the first SEC weekly honor for a Kentucky Wildcat so far this season. During the John Calipari Era, Kentucky has won more weekly SEC honors (120) than any other school, including 91 SEC Freshman of the Week awards and 29 SEC Player of the Week honors.

Missouri’s Kobe Brown wins SEC Player of the Week

Tomorrow’s Kentucky vs. Missouri SEC opener will feature both the SEC Freshman of the Week and the SEC Player of the Week. Missouri’s Kobe Brown took home the top overall honor following a standout performance in the Tigers’ win over No. 16 Illinois.

The 6’8″ senior wing had 31 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and three steals in the 93-71 upset, shooting 10-of-15 from the floor (.667), 3-of-4 from 3-point range (.750), and 8-of-8 from the free throw line (1.000). This season, he’s averaging 14.4 points on 61.5% shooting, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. Limiting Brown will go a long way toward beating the Tigers tomorrow night.
