Cats Getting It Done Off The Court

by:Will Lentz01/05/11

Kentucky isn’t as big a news story this year as it was last, but that doesn’t mean the stories aren’t as good.  Last year a big hooplah was made over a lackluster team GPA (right around a 2.0,) after the first semester.  National media – and the local media that wish they were national – opined about the fall of the student athlete.  They talked of John Calipari and his NBA D-league at Kentucky where all they cared about were results on the court and not the grades off the court.  The GPA rose the next semester (save for the disappearing Orton,) but the perception remained the same.

Maybe it will change a little now.  The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team finished last semester with a total GPA of 2.82, which is frankly better than a good amount of KSR writer’s semesters at college (I mean, just look at my eggregious use of commas and approstraphes.)  Calipari credited his policy of making Terrence Jones hop on a treadmill everytime he derived an equation incorrectly.  Good job guys, keep up the good work.

As an aside, I have to give props to the Women’s Cross Country team that lead the schools atheltics program with a team GPA of 3.57.  That’s just outstanding.
