Cats make Mental Errors, Fall to Mississippi State 84-82

mbb_030907_morris4.jpg This one will last folks. This is a game that will be cited over the coming weeks over and over for all the problems that currently afflicting Kentucky basketball. After being down 13 and fighting their way back, the Cats miraculously pulled defeat from the jaws of victory in a loss to Mississippi State. The Cats made mental errors that boggled the mind. Bobby Perry gets a rebound up two with 15 seconds left and then IMMEDIATELY throws the ball to the worst free throw shooter on the floor, Randolph Morris, who bricks two. Jodie Meeks at the line to clinch the game and Sheray Thomas, in a move that unfortunately will likely define his career at Kentucky, leaves the lane and is called for a violation. Then Kentucky amazingly DOES NOT FOUL when the Bulldogs require a three pointer with four seconds left and a heave sends it to overtime. In overtime, Jodie Meeks misses a wide open layup that could have put the Cats up three. After the Bulldogs take the lead, Kentucky cant get a shot off (again) and lose a game that was their on multiple occasions. There will be ramifications from this game, no doubt. To many it symbolized all that is wrong on every level. The Seniors made mistakes, players missed free throws and some basic coaching manuevers were botched. All in all, one of the more painful UK losses in the last few years. I am not sure how this team bounces back from this one....yesterday I saw a UK locker room that was ready to take the next step. Today I see a team that is, for all intents and purposes, done. I feel very bad for Sheray and I hope folks remember that he did get the tip in to give the Cats the lead. Tough tough day......
