Cats With a Gutsy Win 59-54 over the Hoosiers

by:Matt Jones12/09/06
Well it wasnt the prettiest game of all time, but the Cats nevertheless pulled it out, beating Indiana 59-54 in a game that I believe was HUGE for the future of this team and the coaching staff. The Cats never shot well, were often out-hustled and occasionally seemed to be not in sync.....but they won, and that was the most important part of a difficult day to be at Rupp Arena. Randolph Morris continued his rise to stardom, hitting big shot after big shot and being joined in a great game today by "The Future" Bobby Perry. The game was tied at 47 with six minutes to go and an onlooker could have said (and this one did), "these six minutes are huge for the rest of the year." And the Cats came through.....showing their trademark ability to lockdown on defense and making key stops to pull out the victory. The atmosphere in Rupp Arena however is another thing all together. Beyond the fact that the crowd gave UK virtually no homecourt advantage, the actions of those in the crowd who booed Sheray Thomas were absolutely pathetic. I have said this before and will say it again.....criticize players if you want (although I dont think it helps), rib them good naturedly if you can (like we do), but once they are on the court, they are Wildcats. To boo Sheray Thomas, when the kid does nothing but do his best for the program is disgraceful and will be shown as such. The ENTIRE Oak Hill basketball team was at today's game (another positive and creative recruiting move by the evolving staff) and I am sure they as players loved the notion of a fan turning on their own. And if you dont believe me, listen to the post-game comments of Ravi Moss who absolutely went off on the fans who booed in Sheray's direction. We were at BW3's and taped our Episode 17 there after the show with Ravi. He has some VERY INTERESTING things to say about UK's recruiting, its toughness and other topics. That should be ready for you on Monday. In addition, we will break down more game coverage later.....but for now, a big win and one that will be very important come March.
