CBS Sports: Briscoe has the toughest decision to make about the draft

briscoe-fts Isaiah Briscoe did not receive an invitation to the NBA Draft Combine, which, in theory, should tell him it's probably best to return to school; however, Briscoe has been working out for several NBA teams this week, so there is some interest. CBS Sports' Sam Vecenie posted an article this morning breaking down the players with the toughest decisions left to make about the draft, and Briscoe is right at the top. "There is no player with a more difficult decision in this NBA Draft than Briscoe," Vecenie writes. "The former high school five-star, No. 1 point guard in the country decided to go to Kentucky following high school to follow in the footsteps of such players like Tyreke Evans, Derrick Rose, and John Wall. However, Tyler Ulis returned to school and then late in the process the Wildcats picked up a commitment from potential top-five pick Jamal Murray. That left precious few minutes for Briscoe to utilize his natural gifts as a pick-and-roll passing specialist who can get into the paint at will but isn't particularly useful off-ball due to his lack of shooting ability" Vecenie argues out that if Briscoe comes back, he will face another crowded backcourt with De'Aaron Fox and Malik Monk and could find himself on the bench; however, I'd argue Briscoe's experience and defensive ability will put him in the starting lineup, at least early on, playing a role similar to what he did alongside Ulis and Murray this past season. Still, it's easy for us to want the kid to come back to school and work on his shot, but it's much harder to be in his position and pass up a chance at the league in hopes his stock will be higher next season. Right now, Briscoe is ranked 71st on Chad Ford's Top 100 board of prospects and 95th on CBS Sports' Big Board. According to the new rules, he's got until May 25 to make his decision. [CBS Sports]
