CBS Sports lists Kentucky at No. 14 in updated preseason rankings
Another day, another way-too-early preseason poll listing the Wildcats in the top 15.
Monday afternoon, Gary Parrish of CBS Sports updated his preseason Top 25 And 1 rankings, with Kentucky coming in at No. 14 overall.
“The Wildcats are losing the top six scorers from a team that won the SEC by multiple games – most notably SEC Player of the Year Immanuel Quickley and projected first-round pick Tyrese Maxey. That’s rough,” Parrish said of Kentucky. “But if any program is built to overcome these departures, it’s the one set to enroll the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class featuring 5-star guards Terrence Clarke, BJ Boston and Devin Askew.”
Parrish added that with the addition of another solid piece – Olivier Sarr being declared eligible is one option – Kentucky could jump back into the top 10.
“Exactly what John Calipari will do to further enhance his roster remains unclear,” Parrish said. “But it’s possible the Wildcats could creep back into the top 10 of the Top 25 And 1 before the season begins if the UK staff secures some solid reinforcements.”
In the current rankings, Kentucky is the second-best school in the SEC, behind only Tennessee at No. 11. Coming in at No. 24 overall, Arkansas is the only other SEC program in the rankings.
