Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Decadent and Depraved Kentucky Derby
Fifty years ago Hunter S. Thompson’s career launched into the stratosphere in his hometown. Accompanied by illustrator Ralph Steadman, their journey through debauchery at the 1970 Kentucky Derby is one of literature’s cult classics as the epicenter of Gonzo Journalism.
To celebrate the occasion, Flying Dog Brewery teamed up with Steadman and Willet Distillery to create a pair of fine beers. The Decadent and Depraved gift boxes feature two chocolate and vanilla stouts, aged in Willet bourbon barrels for three months and covered with Steadman’s iconic art.
You can find the limited edition gift boxes at Total Wine and Liquor Barns in the Louisville area. You can also sample some of Flying Dog’s milk stouts at the Bourbon Barrel Tavern in Elizabethtown on Wednesday, Sept 2 at 4 pm.
Maybe milk stouts aren’t your thing. You can still salute the Decadent and Delayed 2020 Derby by pouring a glass of bourbon and descending into madness by reading HST’s 1970 classic.
