Charles Barkley on Auburn: "We're going to kill Kentucky."

After starring at Auburn from 1981-84, Charles Barkley has been outspoken about his love for the Tigers on the court and gridiron ever since. Regularly attending games and repping the burnt orange and navy blue, the NBA legend never misses an opportunity to show support for his former school.

In fact, during Kentucky’s Elite Eight matchup against the Tigers in 2019, this is what his desk looked like during the television broadcast.

Considering his immense love for the Auburn program, it should come as zero shock to the Big Blue Nation that he took a shot at Kentucky leading up to this weekend’s highly anticipated matchup between the Wildcats and Tigers.

In an appearance on Monday Night Football’s Megacast with ESPN’s Rece Davis and Kirk Herbstreit, Barkley joined with NFL legend Peyton Manning to discuss a wide variety of topics, including Auburn’s season-opener against Kentucky this weekend.

“Your Auburn Tigers got a tough match with Kentucky this week,” Herbstreit told Barkley.

“Oh, listen, things are never that bad — we’re going to kill Kentucky,” Barkley responded. “I’m worried about Georgia the next week. Come on, man. This is not basketball. We’re not going to worry about Kentucky in football. Stop it, Herbie.”

After the jab, Manning added that he hoped UK head coach Mark Stoops was listening and uses his words as bulletin-board material.

“OK, I hope Stoops is watching this interview, getting the troops fired up for this game,” Manning said.

Barkley’s comments come just a day after he said former UK superstar Anthony Davis didn’t have a “killer mentality” in the NBA.

“Anthony Davis should be the best player in the world,” he said at halftime of Game 2 of the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets series. “But he doesn’t have that killer mentality. Everybody’s not built like that. … Anthony Davis is just a nice guy who’s a great player.”

Davis followed it up by scoring the final ten points of the game, including a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to put the Lakers up 2-0 in the series:
