Last week, Chris Doering got SEC football fans all riled up when he picked Kentucky to go 11-1, the lone loss being to Tennessee. That means the former Florida quarterback not only believes the Cats will beat his Gators, but also the reigning national champion Georgia Bulldogs. As members of the Big Blue Nation, we love that confidence, but others in the SEC did not. Yesterday, Doering hopped on The Paul Finebaum Show with guest host Alyssa Lang to defend his picks, which drew some heat outside of the Bluegrass.

“I don’t even think you can call it an upset of Florida,” Doering said of Kentucky’s trip to the Swamp on September 10. “I think Kentucky’s going to be favored in that game if they’re not already.”

Florida is a slight favorite in the early lines (homefield advantage) and Kentucky will likely be without Chris Rodriguez. Regardless, Doering had a message for the traditional SEC East powers and fans who still don’t take Kentucky Football seriously.

“Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee, those teams aren’t used to losing to Kentucky. This is not your father’s or grandfather’s Kentucky football program. Mark Stoops has done a great job of building this program to what it is now, heading into his tenth season there in Lexington. I think teams better start recognizing what this Kentucky team is about and they’re about running the football, playing physical, and being great on defense.”

When it comes to Georgia, Doering said one reason he’s going with the Cats to pull off the upset is the Bulldogs’ schedule preceding their trip to Lexington.

“I love the way that it sets up on November 19. Coming off back-to-back-to-back games against Florida, Tenn, Mississippi State, I think that’s why I feel so confident about Georgia’s ability to be upset there after having to play that streak of three games straight before going to Lexington.”

Let’s go. Doering, when it happens, cheese logs on us at KSBar & Grille.
