Chris Livingston might be making a brief detour to Los Angeles before taking his talents to Lexington. The future Kentucky Wildcat and Akron, Oh. native tells On3’s Joe Tipton he will appear in LeBron James’ next feature film, Shooting Stars.

Universal Studios announced 2023 shooting guard and Oregon commit Mookie Cook will play LeBron in the starring role. He’ll get an assist from Stranger Things star, Caleb McLaughlin. The movie is adapted from the 2009 book by Buzz Bissinger, who chronicled James’ run to a National Championship as a high school senior.

Right now it’s unclear what kind of role Livingston will play, but filming for the Peacock movie has already begun in Akron, providing a convenient opportunity for Livingston to make a cameo. Considered by many as the best basketball prospect from Akron since LeBron James, Livingston has developed a kinship with the future Hall of Famer. Last year LeBron and Maverick Carter watched the young phenom in Las Vegas. Ever since James has remained in contact, acting as a mentor of sorts for Livingston.

“He’s really opened up doors for me that I didn’t have before,” Livingston told ZagsBlog. “I still view him the same as how I did as a kid. I look up to him. He’s a role model. It’s kind of the same for me.”

The future Wildcat is one of a few future college basketball stars using NIL to cash in with the film. Michigan signee Jett Howard, Juwan Howard’s son, will play the role of Carmelo Anthony. Former five-star guard Scoota Henderson will also have a role in the film.

Livingston was born in 2003, the same year LeBron won his high school National Championship and was taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft. No matter the size of the role, it has to be surreal for the Akron native to be in a movie about LeBron’s life.
