Five-star small forward Chris Livingston is currently turning heads at the adidas 3SSB event in Birmingham, but took some time to chat with Sports Illustrated’s Jason Jordan about his recruitment, specifically, his official visit to Kentucky last month. The top five prospect hails from Akron, Ohio, but his aunt Lisa ran track at UK in the 90s and still lives in Lexington. She and other members of Chris’ family accompanied him on his visit and, according to reporters on the scene, are in Birmingham cheering him on in Kentucky gear. Hmm.

“Well, geographically I love where it’s at because I have family in Kentucky and they were able to be with me on the visit,” the 6’6″ 200 lbs. Livingston said of his trip to Lexington on June 18. “Coach (John) Calipari is a great person. You just wouldn’t think he’d be that cool because he’s a legend in basketball, but he’s very easy to talk to and just a guy you want to be around.

“Their plan is cool, he said the system doesn’t change but they change you to be ready for the next level. They’re all about preparation for the NBA there. They talked a lot about NIL a lot and what they’d have to offer there. I got to see them in practice and that was very intense. He really broke down to me how the dribble-drive offense works and how it would benefit me. Then the fanbase is probably the No. 1 with the effect they have on social media and in person. They love their basketball players there. The coaches really were on me hard telling me how bad they wanted me there. I enjoyed everything about it.”

Livingston, the No. 5 player in the 2022 class in 247 Sports’ Composite rankings, visited Kansas the week before Kentucky and raved about the Jayhawks as well. He’s got visits planned to Georgetown, Tennessee State, and possibly Ohio State later this month, and North Carolina, Memphis, LSU, Florida and Alabama are also in his top eleven. He’s also considering the pro route, whether it be the G-League, NBL, or OTE.

Hopefully Aunt Lisa will give the Cats an edge. As you can see, Livingston looks pretty good in Kentucky Blue:
