Cinco de Starters-o: Central Michigan Chippewas

by:Evan Hilbert12/29/08
Ready or not, the Cats are back in action tonight after a quick turn around following their rather uninspiring effort on Saturday. The antidote, I predict, will take the form of a team from the north that has only three wins. Who do we play next?...perfect! The Central Michigan Chippewas peacefully travel to Lexington for Bas-ket-bawlllll action this evening, carrying an unimpressive 3-8 record. I'm not sure how a 3-8 record is ever impressive, but CMU has played exactly one team that has players that I've heard of: Marquette. They only lost by 14 to the Golden Eagles, which was their worst loss. Indian Outlaws, your Chippewas: (Photo note: The pictures, for some reason, were messing with the formatting. I had a bit of a fit, and gave up. Sorry, but blame WordPress.) #3 Jeremy Allen, 6'3'', G, Sophomore 2008-09 Stats: 12.6 ppg, 3.1 rpg Allen, who was a MAC all-freshman team selection a year ago, provides a solid scoring threat, if a bit inconsistent. He had 22 in two of CMU's three wins, as well as 20 against Missouri State. He's only had 11 points total in his last two games, though, fouling out in each. #34 Jacolby Hardiman, 6'5'', G/F, Junior 2008-09 Stats: 10.7 ppg, 5.5 rpg Hardiman is described as a long, versatile athlete which is kind of weird, because I thought we had all those guys. He's been a solid scorer for the Chippewas, though he, like Allen, has struggled in the last two games. He had a double-double in a win over Wright State, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 boards. Used to be a Hardy Boy, but he grew out of that. #15 Jordan Bitzer, 6'3'', G, Junior 2008-09 Stats: 9.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg Ahhhhhh!!!! Oh, sorry. But look at that guy. Good gracious. Bitzer, to solidify his spot in the Jason-Williams-from-Florida Badass Hall of Fame, missed the first semester this year for academic problems...or so they say. My guess is he was just too hardcore. He's a shooter, though he's yet to get on track after three games this season. #20 Robbie Harman, 6'1'', G, Junior 2008-09 Stats: 12.1 ppg, 3.1 apg Harman's had a pretty solid stretch of games scoring, as he's gone for double figures in each of the last seven games. He had 21 against Illinois State---all on threes. In fact, he's one of the best shooters in the MAC. Harman also has played some centerfield for the CMU baseball team. #40 Marcus Van, 6'7'', F/C, Senior 2008-09 Stats: 12.5 ppg, 8.3 rpg Van, who was kicked off the team last summer then reinstated, has been all over the place. He's only played in six games, with scoring outputs of 4, 13, 14, 8, 22, and 14. He's capable of having a big game, but he's not yet put it all together. It probably won't come tonight either, methinks. Key Reserves: Adrian Hunter, 5'11'', G: Hunter has started a couple of games in his first year, and he appears to be a potential scoring threat, going for 18 in his first game. CMU will likely be without two top players, as leading scorer Chris Kellerman and big man Marko Spica have both been lost to injury...sorry, this was a bit rushed
