Coach Cal, humanitarian!

by:Thomas Beisner12/15/10
We're used to hearing about Kentucky coach John Calipari and his players earning awards, but this is a first.  Probably because it's the first time the award has been given out, but that's beside the point.  Our very own John Calipari has been nominated for the 2010 United Nations NGO Positive Peace Award in the Coaches Category.  As I'm sure you're aware, Calipari helped raise nearly $1.5 million dollars after the earthquakes in Haiti and, along with the whole team, has worked with Samaritan's Feet(above).  The inaugural award is given out to honor coaches who make "positive contributions" around the world and Cal was one of six nominees, including Kansas coach Bill Self.  Also nominated are South Dakota State's Scott Nagy, former UK assistant and current Tennessee Tech coach Mike Sutton, IUPUI's Ron Hunter and William Knopf of Glenforest High School. In related news, Rick Pitino had sex with a stranger on the floor of a restaurant.
