Today’s showdown in Knoxville between Kentucky and Tennessee received the spotlight for a few minutes on Saturday morning’s edition of College GameDay.

ESPN producer Chris Fallica, better known simply as “The Bear,” has a board that features three picks against the spread each week. For the second time in three weeks, Kentucky appeared on The Bear’s Board.

“I’m curious to see today how Tennessee responds after last week. They kind of were in the game, maybe, but not really. They gave up eight first downs and 150 yards in the fourth quarter. How they respond today I think is going to determine a long way as to how they are throughout the entire year, if they can have the type of year people thought they can have,” Fallica said.

“The Kentucky defense has played pretty well. They got a really good running game. I think it’s a recipe to go on the road against a team who’s psyche might be a little fragile right now. I’m going to take UK on the road here +6.5 (points).”

The Bear previously picked Auburn to cover the spread against UK, a pick that proved to be correct thanks to a few untimely Wildcat errors.

“They’re so close to being 3-0. They could have beat Auburn — a terrible pick right before half and then the missed extra point against Ole Miss. Kentucky’s going to make you earn it,” said David Pollack.

“I like that pick. I like Kentucky,” said Desmond Howard. “I like the way they play at the line of scrimmage. They were very physical against Auburn. They just shot themselves in the foot in the red zone, but they will be without Kavosiey Smoke. He got injured. He’s not gonna play. I still think Tennessee is going to win but I like Kentucky.”

Few folks in the national media have been kinder to Mark Stoops’ program than Kirk Herbstriet. His colleagues tease him for always riding with Stoops’ Troops. This week he’s making an exception to the rule.

“I typically lean towards Kentucky,” Herbstreit said, “but I got information that Al Wilson showed up, the baddest man in the history of college football for me, showed up and talked to Tennessee, so I gotta go with Tennessee.”

Kirk did get information, from Twitter.
