Come get your Converse Cons Blue sneakers ahead of the denim throwback reveal!
The denims are coming and you need the sneakers to match those beautiful throwback uniforms. They were teased back in July — before the Kentucky Wildcats used the official unveiling as a Christmas gift for Big Blue Nation — and now, we have confirmation that the 30th anniversary edition of the Converse Cons Blue is coming this spring.
The first images released this summer were the raw prototype, still waiting on the grand reveal.
Now, the next update is here with an in-depth look at the infamous sneakers worn by Mark Pope’s 1996 national championship team.
They’re chunky and very 90s with a thick sole, big star and denim on the sides and tongue, essentially identical to the originals you know and love (or hate, depending on your thoughts on those polarizing uniforms). But if you watched those Cats compete under Rick Pitino, they’re certain to bring back fond memories of one of the greatest teams to ever take the floor and cut down the nets.
Take a look at the exclusive images of the shoes, shared by Sole Retriever:

Details are still limited, specifically when it comes to the release date and price — what matters most to BBN right now, unfortunately. At least we know they’re coming in the next few months, at least?
“The Converse Cons Blue will be released Spring 2026 through Converse and select retailers in-store and online. As of now, retail pricing is still TBD,” Sole Retriever wrote.

It only makes sense that the Wildcats wear them when they roll out their denims here in the next few weeks, scheduled almost 30 years to the day from the original debut — Feb. 11, 1996 to Feb. 7, 2026. That’ll be a Saturday home game against the Tennessee Volunteers, hoping to earn a second straight regular season sweep against the SEC rival.
“Well, I was trying to push it earlier in the season, but you would be surprised at how complicated it is to roll something out like this,” Pope said of the denims. “There are, like, a thousand different pieces. Huge kudos to (UK Associate Director of Equipment) Mark Evans and the whole crew at Nike for getting this to come to pass.
“We’ve been working on it for a year and a half, trying to see if we can get it across the finish line. … I think it’ll be a really special time to honor that group and honor the rich tradition of Kentucky basketball. I think it’ll be fun. We just found a great game in conference — which is not hard to do because they’re all great. So, it’ll be fun. Good timing.”
It’s only right that they rock the denim uniforms and the Converse Cons Blues on Feb. 7 before fans can sell it all out in the months to come.
I will be joining you in line for all of it, BBN.
