Conversation with Gregg Doyel

I have had a running commentary with Gregg Doyel today about his comments on Tubby leaving. After getting his permission, I will reprint what he said here. Scroll to the bottom to begin reading or it wont make any sense.

There’s a big difference between high school ratings and college talent. In hindsight, Crawford was not worthy of being a McD A-A. That’s clear. In hindsight, Morris was borderline. And I’m not sure what game you saw him tear up Dwight Howard, but that happened if, and only if, Howard was playing with two pulled hamstrings and one sore elbow. Because there is NO comparison between the two, not then and not now.

All depends on how you define talent….is it talent coming out of high
school? talent while in college? A guy like Morrison is a huge talent, but
was not thought to be as amazing as he is coming out of high school.

And I am not sure what high school games you were watching. Morris was
dominant in high school, outplaying Dwight Howard in a game I attended. And
Crawford was a consensus top 10 player….if anything Rondo was the one
people were skeptical on….thought he only made it because he went to Oak
Hill.

I agree that the talent at UK is not playing well. I dont agree they dont
have it. I certainly dont agree for instance that they dont have the talent
of a Tennessee.

my man rajon? i’ve been crushing rajon for weeks. he’s not my man.

crawford didn’t deserve to be a mcd’s A-A. morris was borderline. meeks? no
shot. this team is not all that talented, and next year’s team will be
worse. i see LOTS of teams, and believe me, UK is not high on the list of
talent

Funny line, but incorrect. Kentucky has enough talent to win the SEC this
year….they just dont. The lineup for next year has 2 McDonalds All
Americans (and Meeks has an outside shot at being a third) and a decent
bench. That is more talent than all but about ten teams in college
basketball. The question is if they will play selfish and simply not show
up like this group.

This team sucks this year….but it isnt talent that is killing them.
Tubby
won witih nobodys like Fitch, Daniels, Hawkins, Hayes, etc….he should be
winning wiht this group as well.

Lack of talent is a convenient excuse….the problems are much more
extensive (and begin with your man Rajon)…

Bradley
Meeks
Crawford
Perry
Morris

Carter redshirts, but watch out for the possiblity of Bradley transferring..

perry stevenson might have a good upside, but i understand he will be next
to useless as a college freshman.

Throw a brother a bone and write about how absurd the referees are in
Duke’s
games. Forget about the BC no call against Sheldon….how about a
Florida
St game where St scores 70 percent of their points in the paint, Duke
shoots jumpers….Duke shoots forty free throws….Florida St 11.
