Could 2014 Recruiting Include a Three-Player Package Deal?

by:Corey Nichols06/16/13
Winslow Believe it or not, this post is about basketball recruiting.  Crazy, with all the football news flying around and #2 national rankings we've been picking up, right?  I promise, the next post will be about football (there's an announcement at 5:30 that we'll have for you, so stay tuned). But three of the top recruits in 2014 are talking to each other, and maybe considering being a "package deal" to whatever school they pick.  Two player package deals aren't all that uncommon in today's college basketball environment; elite players find teammates they like, why not spend their year or two in college together?  This year's team recruited each other pretty well, starting with the Harrisons, who might have done as much as the assitant coaches in bringing the other guys on board. A three-player package deal, though?  Well, that's something to pay attention to.  Zagsblog reports that Justise Winslow, Tyus Jones, and Jahlil Okafor have been talking about playing in tandem through college.  The only problem with that?  Winslow's list of 10 schools doesn't include UK.  That's not an insurmountable hurdle, especially with so much time left before they'll have to commit, but it does give some perspective to the recruiting process for all three.  Because the trio unanimously list Duke, plenty feel like the Blue Devils are the favorites.  However, if there's one thing college basketball has learned over the last four years, it's to never count out Calipari and Kentucky when it comes to recruiting. Just ask Lorenzo Romar. Stay tuned for 5:30, when 4-star wide receiver Derek Kief announces between Kentucky, Ohio State, and Alabama. Keep your fingers crossed for Yahtzee.
