Could Cal coach the Olympic team in 2016?

Insert Cal here? It makes me shudder to mention his name in this sacred space, but news broke yesterday that Coach K will be coaching his last Team USA this summer in London. The current Team USA, which may include our own Anthony Davis, hasn't even started practicing yet, but there are already people speculating about who will coach the next Team USA in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. IBTimes.com has a list of five possible replacements, with a familiar name coming in at number four: 1. Jim Boeheim 2. Mike D'Antoni 3. Erik Spoelstra
4. John Calipari Calipari is one of basketball's premiere coaches and is coming off an NCAA title with the Kentucky Wildcats. There's no denying Calipari would like to get a chance to rewrite his NBA legacy after failing as head coach of the New Jersey Nets. Coaching Team USA gives Calipari that chance while also upping his credentials as a hot NBA coaching candidate should he lead USA Basketball to gold.
5. Phil Jackson Let's gloss over the last part of that blurb and analyze Cal's chances at coaching Team USA. Cal has already agreed to coach the Dominican Republic team this summer (including a scrimmage against Team USA), a move which many see as padding his international coaching resume. With a National Championship under his belt, and more ties to the NBA than many college coaches, the idea isn't so absurd. In fact, consider what Team USA may look like in 2016. Anthony Davis may already make the 2012 roster, with John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins playing for the USA Select squad that will prepare the team for the Olympics. Add in a slew of rookies headed into the league, and many more following in their footsteps over the next four years, and it's not insane to think that a good portion of Team USA 2016 will be former Wildcats. Who better to coach them than Cal? Some may argue that Cal's history and reputation would make him a risky choice to represent USA Basketball; yet, I'll argue that his success this past season has made him part of the conversation. What say you? Will Cal get a chance to coach Team USA in 2016?
