One of the top quarterbacks Kentucky has been recruiting in the class of 2024 has made a college decision. Windsor (Conn.) The Loomis Chaffee School product Dante Reno announced his commitment to South Carolina on Saturday evening.

Head coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks have a lot of recruiting momentum with their QB of the future in 2024 locked in along with 11 commitments in the 2023 class.

Dante Reno is the son of Yale head football coach Tony Reno and is the No. 246 prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Reno is currently ranked as a top-20 quarterback in the class.

The rising junior camped at Kentucky last summer to work out for offensive coordinator Liam Coen. The 6-foot-2 quarterback immediately emerged as a potential high school option in 2024. However, a coaching change was made, and South Carolina closed strong with offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield making Dante Reno a priority target.

The New England native visited Columbia four times in the last three months and made it official on Saturday with his announcement.

Where does Kentucky go next?

A lot is still unknown about new offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello, but it seems like the Wildcats have focused in on Indianapolis (Ind.) Cathedral quarterback Danny O’Neil in the class of 2024.

O’Neil is the No. 419 prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Consensus. The six-foot quarterback flashes some off-platform playmaking skills on tape and has been to Lexington twice since March. Currently, Purdue is seen as the top competitor for the Wildcats.

With no quarterback committed in the class of 2023, visiting the transfer portal will be a must after the season. Once that happens, Kentucky can fully focus on 2024 prospects. O’Neil will likely be at the top of that list.
