Darius Miller expected to miss 7-8 months with Achilles injury

On Thursday, the New Orleans Pelicans announced that former Kentucky forward Darius Miller had ruptured his right Achilles and would be out for the foreseeable future, though a timeline for a return to basketball activities was unknown.

Now, we know how long the 6-foot-7 wing will be out of action.

According to ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Miller is expected to miss seven to eight months following the injury he suffered while playing 3-on-3 basketball.

Andrews also reported that the former Wildcat is scheduled to begin rehab next week and start practicing again in five to six months.

Back in July, the former Wildcat signed a two-year deal with the Pelicans worth $14.25 million, with $7,250,000 of that being guaranteed. Miller averaged 8.2 points per game and shot 36.5% from three last season.

Miller’s ruptured Achilles  joins a long string of bad luck for former Kentucky players. Los Angeles Lakers center DeMarcus Cousins tore his ACL earlier this month, an injury that will keep him out for the entirety of the 2019-20 NBA season. Former UK football star Avery Williamson also tore his ACL a few weeks back and will miss the upcoming NFL season, as well.

Miller and Cousins’ former teammate, John Wall, has also been out since Dec. 26 due to an Achilles injury of his own and had an original recovery time of 12 months, though Wizards owner Ted Leonsis recently said that his star point guard would likely miss the entire upcoming season, as well.

Best of luck to all former Wildcats as they recover from their respective injuries.
