The Sacramento Kings have a 7.6% chance of winning the right to the #1 pick in this year's NBA Draft.
Even if the 7.6% chance is unkind to the Kings, dropping them out of contention in the Anthony Davis sweepstakes, they have their eyes set on another former Kentucky Wildcat. The Kings are looking to do two things in this year's draft: upgrade the front court and add more depth on the wing. Davis would clearly be the desired choice to fill the front court needs, but Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, a consensus Top-5 pick, could potentially fill their secondary need. The Kings have been searching for a good small forward to compliment their strengths at the surrounding positions with Demarcus Cousins and Tyreke Evans.
According to Rob Small of the Examiner, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is one of the big names on the draft board that the Kings could very well be interested in, depending on when they make their selection and who is still available. The only downfall in the possibility of a Cousins/Kidd-Gilchrist pairing is that the Kings are looking to add more consistent outside shooting threats to the line-up. Though they have a need for a good small-forward, they might be looking more at prospects such as Harrison Barnes who are better known for the their long range shooting.
"Focusing on team needs, small forward has been a difficult position for the Kings to fill. The last time the Kings had a good small forward who could shoot away from the basket was John Salmons in his first stint with Sacramento in 2009."
The thought of the Kings having not only a Kentucky fan favorite in Demarcus Cousins, but also the potential for either Davis or Kidd-Gilchrist (also fan favorites) would have to make the Kings the new adopted favorite NBA team around the state of Kentucky.
