Derek Dooley Continues Proud Tennessee Tradition: Commits Recruiting Violation

by:Will Lentz12/21/10

Derek Dooley needs to spend a little more time with kids, and a little less time on their facebook walls.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, Dooley self reported the violation earlier this week and has since been reprimanded by the NCAA.  He was guilty of breaking NCAA bylaw 13.4.1.2, which states that “electronically transmitted correspondence that may be sent to a prospective student-athlete (or the prospective student-athlete’s parents or legal guardians) is limited to electronic mail and facsimiles.”  The last word which means either an old manuscript or art print, or a Fax.  I like to think Dooley sends his recruits copies of the Book of Kells.

Dooley was guilty of accidentally posting on a recruits facebook wall when he was attempting to send them a text message, it would seem.  And just like that, recruiting violation.  Thank god for the NCAA.

Either way, Lane Kiffin still rules the first year violation count with at least 6 that we know of to Dooley’s 2 so far.  But with Bruce Pearl coming under fire recently too, it’s beginning to seem like the folks in Knoxville burned all their copies of the NCAA rulebook when they were cremating the Lane Kiffin era.

As part of his punishment, Dooley and his staff will have to undergo a Facebook training and education program, which I can only assume will be taught by Ms. Landingham’s third grade class from South Knoxville Elementary.
