Let's put this to bed

One topic that's been getting way too much play since the game's conclusion is the question of whether Marquis Teague traveled as he was running the clock out. The first I saw of this was Dan Wolken whining all over his Twitter feed about it. I jacked a low quality video (the best I could find) from YouTube and I trimmed it to the play in question. The debate is over what occurred between the fourth and seventh second of the video. Honestly, it's hard to tell but it looked like he traveled with about 0.8 seconds left on the game clock. He took three steps before throwing the ball down and running to the bench. One case I saw for him not walking was that the North Carolina player tipped the ball out of his hand and he lost it briefly. I don't know if I buy that, though. I think he walked. That being said, I don't think that it's as big a deal as everyone is making it out to be. North Carolina made no effort to foul when they could have with five seconds left. The Tar Heels had waved the white flag and the referees acknowledged that. If one of the UNC players was chasing after Teague trying to foul him and he did the same thing, then the whistle should have been blown. I don't think that they should be rewarded when they were no longer making an effort to win the game though. After the intensity of that game and the insanity of Rupp, I think the refs were too busy breathing sighs of relief to notice Teague's pre-celebration happy feet. Anyone who is upset that UK won and is using this play as their primary argument for poor officiating benefiting the Cats needs to be reminded of the ridiculous overturned out of bounds call late in the game under the UNC basket that resulted in a Harrison Barnes three. There were questionable calls both ways, but for the most part this officiating team was pretty good and let the teams play. Making a fuss about this call is just whining for the sake of whining. Now let's stop talking about it.
