Three-star Kentucky commit Jakob Dixon and the Pleasant Ridge Park Panthers will head to Lexington to take on the Lexington Catholic Knights this Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST

Friday Nights in Lexington

The 22nd-best team in the state of Kentucky, (KSR’s Week 3 Kentucky High School Football Rankings) Lexington Catholic lost a heartbreaker last week. They are coming off a 7-6 loss to Covington Catholic (yes they played football, not hockey).

A defensive masterclass, but the offensive side left much to be desired. The Knights will look to reignite an offense that scored 75 points across the first two weeks. PRP will look to shut down four-star kicker Max DeGraff. Over three weeks, DeGraff has hauled in seven receiving touchdowns to go along with his nine total made field goals.

PRP boasts an offense that has scored 128 points over its first three games. However, after beating Valley and Doss effortlessly, they were humbled by Bowling Green 41-14 in Week 3.

With both teams coming off tough losses, they’ll be eager to get back in the win column. The Panthers offense includes one of the best wide receiver duos in 6A. The team’s YPG leader is Kentucky commit Jakob Dixon. So far this year, ’24 WR Santana Crayton has five touchdowns and is looking to add more against a stout Knight defense.

Also, both media teams get an A+ from me.

After watching the videos above, you would think this is a Saturday night SEC matchup between powerhouses. The blue and white combo of Lex Cath against the red and white combo of PRP makes this feel like a big rivalry that we all love. Identically, the game will be played in Lexington this Friday, just like on November 28th.

Dixon Quite Similar to Current Kentucky Pass Catcher

Dixon is a three-star ranked as the #1 in-state WR in the 2023 class. With a 6’5, 200-pound frame as a receiver, Dixon has drawn comparisons to Kentucky TE Izayah Cummings. Cummings was also a Louisville star as a receiver.

However, once he arrived in Lexington, Stoops saw him as a receiving tight-end rather than a wide-out. The same fate could be incoming for Dixon, but his speed sets him apart. Not only is he physical off the line, but he can also beat athletic corners in man.

The story of Dixon’s commitment is quite interesting. The Wildcat staff saw Dixon at a camp over the summer in Lexington. Before this point, he was flying below the radar, with his offers being mostly small D-1 schools. However, after impressing during the camp, he earned himself a scholarship to play in the SEC East. He will join former Panther and current Wildcat CB Elijah Reed next year.

Familiar faces never hurt.
