As Mrs. Tyler noted earlier, Cal & Orlando Antigua were in attendance at the Sweet 16 today to watch Dominique Hawkins and his
Madison Central team take on Covington Holmes. If they were looking for entertainment, they were not disappointed. They even got some free basketball as the game went to overtime after being tied 52-52 at the end of regulation. Madison Central would eventually edge Covington Holmes 65-61 in OT, but not before a couple of monster games were put in the books by the stars of the two respective teams.
Hawkins got off to a bad shooting start (1 for 9), but fought back to finish regulation play with 26 points and 11 rebounds.
He went on to score 5 more in overtime to finish with 31 points and 12 rebounds. Covington Holmes sophomore Beetle Bolden was not to be outdone, though. He scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Those, my friends, are
what I like to call Gentlemen's games.
Dominique Hawkins has got to be flying high right about now. Its got to be a great feeling to score 31 points in Rupp and lead your team to an overtime victory in the Sweet 16. But it's got to be the greatest feeling to do it in front of Coach Cal.
