Doyel Knocks it Out of the Park

izzo.jpeg Its no secret that I am as big a fan of Gregg Doyel as one can reasonably be and still be logically coherent. Sure he says outrageous things and sure he makes claims that are obscenely ridiculous and worthy of mocking (like his claim on my show that Kevin Love "throws the best two-handed chest pass in history). But he is one of the very few sportswriters in America who will say what he thinks without hesitation, and lets the chips fall where they may. Most sportswriters court friends or future jobs.....Gregg courts the truth, or at least the truth as he sees it, which I like. All of which leads me to this column he wrote last week, in which he nailed college coaches for what they all too often do at the sign of any difficulty....blame the players. He rightly chides guys like Coach K for losing a big game and immediately blaming his 5 star recruits, not the alleged genius who is mentoring them. And then to finish it off, he gives credit to our own Billy Clyde for accepting responsibility for his team's loss and not laying it off on the players as some of his contemporaries more worried about their own national personalities and fame are apt to do. Kudos Gregg....although the fact that you are doing MMA is still ridiculous.
