Ending the Silly Boogie Situation

by:Matt Jones01/28/10
cats All along, I assumed the South Carolina fan "Stephen"/Demarcus Cousins story was either overblown or fabricated. As we said on this site (and a man repeated to me today at Subway in Middlesboro), "if Cousins wanted to hit him, he wouldnt have been walking, much less bragging on the radio." That sentiment was repeated today by the original South Carolina reporter who started all the mess to the good Doctor Jerry Tipton. Bob Shields, the South Carolina tv/radio reporter at issue, told Tipton that he didnt think Cousins' action was a "punishable offense" and wasnt worthy of the attention it received. (As a side note, it is easy for him to say that now...the only reason it received any attention was because of him in the first place...but I digress.) In addition, he said that he didnt think the mysterious "Stephen" was upset either noting, "He had a grin on his face. He said it was worth it. He looked at it as kind of funny. Kind of proud of it. Said he'd take another one in Rupp Arena if he needed to." So there you go, case closed. The person whose promotion of the story started the concern, now ends it a day later. And if anyone wants to help "Stephen" find what the experience he is looking for on his Rupp Arena visit, I am sure Shields will help in picking volunteers.
